Fans sad about Zambia starting the African games on a  slot note with the table tennis team recording losses on day one

ZAMBIA has started the African Games in Ghana on a slot note with the Table Tennis team recording losses on day one.

Zambia has fielded Mubanga Kunda, Latifa Nalavwe, Charles Banda, and Choolwe Hamalambo in Table Tennis but the quartet recorded defeats in the singles events of the Women’s and Men’s categories at the ongoing African Games in Ghana.

In the men’s singles, Hamalambo suffered a 3-1 loss to Nadir Sudan, while Banda, who had a bye in the round of 128, faced Gedeon Vita Kassa of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) but lost 3-1.

With men starting at a loss, the hope was left to the women but there was no win coming from there too.

Kunda was beaten 3-0 by Rochica Sonday of South Africa, while Nalavwe lost to Loghraibi Lynda of Algeria by the same scoreline. Both Kunda and Nalavwe competed in the Women’s round of 64.

“The Zambian quartet, under the tutelage of Coach Friday N’gandu, were in action on Monday 4th March 2024, and we await information on whether the athletes will be competing in the Team Events during the games,” The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) stated
