SLEEPING ON DUTY: POLICE OFFICER LOSES LOADED GUN, GETS ARRESTED

A Police Officer in Livingstone has been detained after his firearm went missing when he reportedly lost consciousness on his way home after leaving his work station early even though he was scheduled to be there the whole night.

Constable Rejoice Sindandumuna, 24, of Ellaine Brittel lost an AK 47, Serial number 271225, which was issued to him on February 28, 2024 at 17:40 hours for purposes of performing guard duties at Zesco Stores near Livingstone Intercity Bus Station.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, notes that the aforementioned firearm had 20 rounds of ammunition.

Daka explains that Sindandumuna reported on duty at 18:00 hours on the material day and was scheduled to knock off at 06:00 hours the following morning.

He, however, says around 03:00 hours, the Officer knocked off duty whilst in possession of the firearm and set for home using Kombe Drive.    

Sindandumuna claims that as he reached Bread of life Church near the roundabout, he lost consciousness and collapsed and was in that state for about 20 minutes. 

Daka states that when he woke up, he discovered that the firearm and ammunition, together with KD Itel cellphone were missing.
