‘You will be suspended,’ FIFA warns FAZ

FIFA has issued a stern warning to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) regarding potential repercussions should they heed a High Court order preventing their Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for today.

Despite FAZ’s plans to convene its ordinary AGM at the Government Complex, a High Court injunction obtained by soccer administrator Damiano Mutale has thrown a wrench into their plans.

In a letter dated April 26, 2024, addressed to FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga, FIFA Member Associations Officer Kenny Jean-Marie urged FAZ to disregard the court order, suggesting that it represents undue influence by third parties.

Jean-Marie’s letter emphasized that the High Court’s order could be viewed as a violation of FIFA and CAF Statutes, potentially leading to sanctions against FAZ. He stated that any attempt by third parties to obstruct the FAZ AGM might prompt FIFA to intervene and consider imposing sanctions in accordance with its statutes.

Furthermore, Jean-Marie warned that if FAZ were to face suspension, it would result in Zambia being deprived of participation in sporting activities with other countries. This could lead to further sanctions, including the prohibition of sporting contacts with suspended member associations and the imposition of additional penalties by FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee.

The implications of such actions underscore the seriousness with which FIFA views the situation, highlighting the potential consequences not only for FAZ but for the broader sporting landscape involving Zambia.
