Combatting Superstition: Condemning Witch-Finders’ Theft in Chikankata

Published

on

By

In the rural community of Chikombola Ward in Chikankata District, a disturbing trend has emerged – witch-finders stealing cattle under the guise of cleansing the area of alleged practitioners of witchcraft. This reprehensible act not only undermines the fabric of trust within the community but also perpetuates harmful superstitions and injustices.

According to reports from Chikombola Ward Councilor, Ian Namakala, witch-finders have invaded the area, charging individuals suspected of witchcraft three cows each for supposed cleansing rituals. This exploitation of fear and superstition not only leads to financial extortion but also incites harassment and division among the locals.

Senior Headman Lweeko has rightfully condemned the actions of these witch-finders, highlighting the lack of evidence produced to substantiate accusations of witchcraft. Such baseless accusations only serve to deepen divisions and breed mistrust within the community, further exacerbating tensions and perpetuating harmful stereotypes.

While Chieftainess Mweenda has clarified that the community sought permission for the witch-finders to treat sick individuals, it is evident that their actions have far exceeded the bounds of reasonable intervention. Exploiting vulnerable communities under the guise of tradition and superstition is not only morally reprehensible but also criminal.

We stand in solidarity with the residents of Chikombola Ward and Chikankata District in condemning these egregious acts of theft and harassment. No individual should be subjected to baseless accusations or extortion, and it is imperative that authorities take swift and decisive action to address this issue.

As a society, we must confront and challenge harmful superstitions and practices that perpetuate injustice and exploitation. Education, dialogue, and community empowerment are essential tools in combating such insidious behaviors and fostering a culture of inclusivity, respect, and dignity for all.

Let us unite in condemning the actions of witch-finders stealing cattle in Chikankata. Together, we can work towards building a society where justice prevails, and individuals are treated with fairness, compassion, and dignity, free from the shackles of superstition and fear.

In a new video that Very Dark Man made, he started by saying that EFCC is claiming to not know where Yahaya Bello is, even though he stole billions of Naira. He also said that they can’t find Yahaya Bello, but they easily track and arrest Yahoo boys that steal meager sums like $50.
