Chess Marathon: Tunde Onakoya battles health challenges, refuses to give up
The chess master Tunde Onakoya, who is aiming to break a Guinness World Record, faced a health setback during his marathon but refused to surrender.
Gift of Chess, a New York-based non-profit organization, revealed that Tunde experienced severe vomiting and stomach pain during his ongoing marathon on Thursday.
Despite these challenges, Tunde, along with his United States counterpart Shawn Martinez, is striving to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon at New York City’s iconic Times Square, with the event scheduled to conclude on Friday, April 19.
Although there were concerns about his health and doubts about his ability to continue the record-breaking endeavor, Tunde Onakoya demonstrated unwavering determination to persevere.
Gift of Chess reported this in a post via the X platform while urging his supporters not to give up on him.
“That’s @Tunde_OD curled over in pain. Yesterday we did not think we could continue, as he was experiencing intense vomiting & stomach pain.
When given the choice to quit, he said I will play on for the dreams of millions of children.
Tunde has never quit on the kids, let’s not quit on him. Everyone who has liked a photo we ask you now to donate. $5 dollars is way more than enough.”

In a lengthy Twitter post, he shared a story Kizz Daniel made in the past while talking about his wife, who he revealed believed in him when he started his music career. The singer disclosed that his wife would bring food for him when he spent hours in the studio and was mocked by her friends who claimed he couldn’t sing.
Kizz Daniel stated that his wife and his brother stood by him and were the only ones liking his posts, and she was the one who paid for his first song, which was N10,000.
Using his story as a case study, Dr Pharouk stated that men are grateful people as there is nothing one would do for them that they will forget completely. He avowed that men will always be there for women who stood by them and respected them at their low moments.
