Nigerian immigrant who had recently moved to the United Kingdom fatally assaulted his wife using a skateboard

Olubunmi Abodunde, a Nigerian man residing in the United Kingdom, has tragically taken the life of his wife, Taiwo, using their son’s skateboard, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The couple, who migrated from Nigeria to the UK in 2022, had a tumultuous relationship marked by frequent arguments over alleged infidelities and financial matters.

Reportedly, 48-year-old Abodunde had been under investigation by Suffolk Police for incidents of domestic violence. Despite being subject to bail conditions prohibiting him from entering the property due to a prior violent episode, Abodunde entered the house where the fatal incident occurred.

Initially set to face trial for murder, Abodunde changed his plea to guilty after the jury had been sworn in, admitting to the tragic act of violence that claimed his wife’s life.

An IOPC spokesperson disclosed, “We have informed two Suffolk officers that they are under investigation for potential breaches of the police standards of professional behavior, possibly amounting to gross misconduct. Additionally, another officer is under investigation at the level of misconduct.”

Abodunde’s history of jealousy and suspicion, often accusing his wife of infidelity, led to multiple police investigations into alleged domestic violence incidents prior to his wife’s tragic death.

On April 27 of the previous year, Abodunde was apprehended when police responded to a call at the couple’s residence in Newmarket, Suffolk, discovering Mrs. Abodunde with a split lip.

Following his arrest, he was released on police bail with strict conditions, including staying away from the marital home and avoiding contact with his wife. However, despite these conditions, Abodunde returned home shortly after 9 am, purportedly to retrieve his mobile phone after a night shift at Tesco.

Upon the arrival of two officers at 9:20 am to take a statement from Mrs. Abodunde regarding the previous night’s incident, they heard repeated banging noises emanating from inside the house.

A post-mortem examination revealed harrowing details of the extent of the violence inflicted upon Mrs. Abodunde. She had been strangled until she lost consciousness, then subjected to brutal stomping that fractured her ribs, before her husband wielded the skateboard to deliver the fatal blows. The force of the assault was so severe that it visibly damaged the skateboard.

During the court proceedings, Prosecutor Simon Spence KC suggested that the banging noises heard by the officers were likely the sounds of Abodunde persisting in his attack on his wife even after she had become unconscious or deceased.

Despite working as a care home assistant in Cambridge, Mrs. Abodunde’s husband, who had training as a civil engineer, struggled to secure employment in his field and resorted to taking shifts at Tesco and Wickes.

Following his arrest for the murder, Abodunde was transported to the hospital due to exhibiting signs of a possible mental health episode.

In a subsequent police statement, he attempted to justify his actions by claiming self-defense, alleging, “My wife has subjected me to physical abuse for a number of years. On November 28, we got into an argument. She ran at me with a knife, I grabbed the knife and cut my hand. I was defending myself.”

But the court heard while he did have an injury to his hand, there wasn’t a knife near his wife’s body.

Nneka Akudolu KC, defending, said the level of violence was ‘completely out of character’ for her client and might have been affected by medication he was taking. But she said no medical evidence would be provided to support this claim.

Detective Inspector Dan Connick, of Suffolk Police, said after the hearing, “This was an awful attack on a woman that has had a lasting impact on the community and, most importantly, on the victim’s family.

‘We are pleased that Taiwo’s family will no longer have to go through the pain of a trial.

‘Our thoughts remain with Taiwo’s family and friends and hope this result will bring some small comfort to them.’

Taiwo Abodunde worked for Cambridge Manor Care Home, which provides dementia care and residential and respite care.

A spokesman for the facility, which is owned by TLC Care, said: ‘We are all deeply shaken and upset by the tragic death of Taiwo, who was a much-loved member of our home community.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her family. Taiwo’s compassionate and kind nature was evident in her care for those we support. She will be greatly missed by all of us and our residents.”

Abodunde has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 9th.

16-year-old boy in court accused of murdering a security guard

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy has appeared in the Lusaka High Court charged with murder after the car he was driving allegedly hit a security guard at the mall who later died.

When the juvenile offender, through his lawyer, applied for bail pending trial, the State urged the court to only grant bail to the teenager after it is ascertained that he will be safe if realised.

A prosecutor told Judge Mwamba Chanda that considering the seriousness of the offence, the teenager is in danger of being attacked by the deceased’s relatives.

The juvenile, who will be called CJ, is charged with murder after the Toyota Alphard he was allegedly driving last December hit a security guard at Manda Hill Mall who later died.

The victim is Enoch Chanda, 35, a G4S security guard at Manda Hill mall.

When the case came up yesterday,CJ pleaded not guilty and his lawyer Robert Siulapwa applied for bail pending trial.

The application was pursuant to section 73(2) of the Children’s Code Act.

“The court has jurisdiction to inquire into the case and strike a balance between the community as well as the child with regard to safety before the bail is granted,” Mr Siulapwa said.

But the State contended that the defence had not demonstrated that there is no danger on the child being released.

“We are of the view that the offence the child is charged with is serious, which itself puts the child in danger as he may be attacked by the deceased relatives who may not understand the law. We pray that not until the inquiry is concluded as to the safety of the child, he stays in custody,” a prosecutor submitted.

Judge Chanda ruled that all offences pertaining children are bailable, serve for the fact that the court needs to ascertain the safety or danger of the child or to the community or vice versa, especially if circumstances are aggravating.

She ordered that a juvenile inspector should conduct an assessment in the community by interviewing families of the deceased, the child in conflict with the law and community members.

Bail will only be granted if there are no threats to the community or if the child is not a threat

The Anambra State Police Command has dismissed the claims that 21 soldiers were killed by gunmen in the state.

There have been reports across social media since Tuesday saying that 21 soldiers who were on their way to Enugu State were rounded up and killed in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Monday evening.

But while reacting to the report in a statement on Wednesday, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, dismissed the claims, describing it as “misleading”, “unfounded” and “false”.

The statement read, “The Anambra State Police Command is aware of a misleading, unfounded, and false report titled, ‘Gunmen kill 21 soldiers in Anambra’, recently peddled by some online media and national dailies.

“The Command wishes to state that the report is untrue, a product of fiction, and the handiwork of mischief-makers.

kenga added that the Command should not hesitate to invoke relevant cyber laws on persons found wanting in this regard.

“However, the Command urges the public to disregard the report,” he added.

The full buck moon brings a great shift

Published

on

July’s full buck moon is set to arrive after sunset on Sunday the 21st and it will be the biggest and brightest supermoon of the year. Whether you’re looking for it or not, this moon will bring a significant amount of change into your life, but how you choose to accept it and harness its powerful energy is up to you. The buck moon got its name from the male deers’ antlers which are in full-growth during this time, just like the moon which is at its peak. As for your emotions, it is crucial that you listen to your heart. If your body is calling for you to rest, slow down and spend time at home, if you want to start something new, now is the time to put things in place, or if you want to work on your relationships, be upfront, honest, and work on your connections.

What does full buck moon mean for your zodiac sign?

Aquarius
You may be feeling overwhelmed and need time alone. Now is the best time to focus on yourself and your healing. It may be helpful to tune out any external voices and noises, and concentrate on what is most important to you in order to find ways to help you get there. Harness the moon’s powerful energy to process things with a clear mind and conscience and you may find that it gives you the closure you need.

Pisces

Use this time to evaluate your relationships and consider whether they are serving you in a positive way. If anyone in your life is not bringing you joy or happiness, it might be time to take a step back and channel your energy into healthy relationships instead. Be open and honest with your feelings and ensure that all parties are on the same page and accept that if things aren’t working out, it might be the better option to walk away rather than forcing them.

Aries
The full buck moon in Aries will present an opportunity to enhance your career and life’s purpose. The moon will help you assess whether you are in the right position and if a change in direction should be on the cards. If you’re feeling like your workload is getting out of control, or your responsibilities have been increased, this may be the sign that it’s time for a new career path. While it might be a daunting prospect, it will work out in your favor.

Taurus
For the taurus, the full buck moon is the perfect time to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. There are countless opportunities waiting for you which could alter the direction of your life. Whether it’s traveling, taking up a new hobby, starting a new project, gaining a new skill, or creating new connections, this is the time to try it out.

Gemini
You might feel most comfortable keeping everything as surface level as possible, but July is the ideal time to start delving deeper. It could be a relationship, an emotion, or something else, but if there was ever a time to put your heart into something, the full buck moon will present you with the right opportunity.

Cancer
For cancers, this month’s focus should be on your relationships. Take the time to identify who is most important to you in your life and work on strategies to enhance your bond. Whether it is a romantic partner, a family member, or a friend, the full buck moon will give you the tools to establish trust and build on your existing connection.

Leo
Leos must use the full buck moon’s energy to help others, as well as yourself. Self-care is equally, if not more important, than caring for those around you. Keep an eye on your health, make sure you are practicing a positive way of living to enlighten your spirit and be a bright light for those around you as well.

Virgo
The full buck moon can heighten your emotions and feelings in a number of ways and for the Virgo, it may bring us past hurt. Although things may feel overwhelming and consuming, you can work with this energy to come out stronger than ever. Make sure to do something that brings you a great amount of joy and allows you to forget about the pain.

Libra
You may feel yourself wanting to break away from everyone and everything and spend some time alone. Don’t worry about feeling like this, it’s your body telling you it needs to reset and hide away for a little bit. It’s ok to be introverted during July, it may be the ideal time for you to replenish your energy and recharge your spirit before emerging as a stronger person.

Scorpio
In a direct contrast from the Libra, Scorpios may feel more extraverted this month as the buck moon transitions into full illumination. There will be a strong desire to be surrounded by people, be more involved in social situations, and develop new relationships. If a new connection is made, you may be more likely to thrive in it regardless if it’s romantic or platonic.

Sagittarius
Slowing down and embracing the moment is ideal for the Sagittarius during July. Allow the full buck moon’s powerful energy to permeate into all aspects into your life and feel more connected to the universe. You may feel the need to practice introspection and take the right actions to enhance your life in the future.

Capricorn
Capricorn’s should expect to feel heightened emotions all month long. You may start to consider your identity and purpose and try to understand how everything will fit into your life. Don’t try to rush this process, everything will start to fall into place. This moment could be incredibly poignant and allow you to become your authentic self.
