Tears: My boyfriend stabbed by a policeman bled to death because 4 hospitals rejected him

The tragic story of 26-year-old Anosikwa Patrick, a promising realtor, highlights the devastating consequences of police brutality in Nigeria. Patrick’s life was cut short in a horrifying manner, leaving his loved ones shattered and the community outraged.

On what seemed like a routine outing with his girlfriend, Joy Ebere, to unwind at Skymall in the Ajah area of Lagos, Patrick encountered a nightmare instead. Little did he know that he would never return to his familiar surroundings, as he fell victim to the very officer entrusted with his protection.

Patrick, the second child in a family of six, had humble beginnings, residing in the densely populated Ajegunle area of Lagos with his parents. However, fate smiled upon him, and he eventually relocated to Ajah, seeking better opportunities, while his parents settled in Ago-Palace in the Okota area of the state.

The irony of Patrick’s situation is painfully evident. Instead of finding refuge and relaxation in his new environment, he encountered tragedy at the hands of those meant to uphold the law and ensure safety. His dreams, aspirations, and potential were extinguished in an act of senseless violence, leaving behind a grieving family and a community grappling with anger and sorrow.

Patrick’s story serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to address police brutality and reform law enforcement practices in Nigeria. No individual should fear for their life while simply going about their daily activities. The loss of Patrick underscores the critical importance of accountability and justice in preventing similar tragedies from occurring in the future.

Unfortunately, the curtains fell on the life’s journey of the realtor  after he was stabbed in the thigh thigh  by a police man.

Explaining how life was snuffed out of him, his girlfriend, Beatrice  said perhaps he would have survived the injury, had the hospital he was rushed to attended to him.

The harrowing account provided by Joy Ebere sheds light on the tragic events that unfolded on April 20, 2024, at Skymall in Lagos. Her recollection paints a chilling picture of the senseless violence that claimed the life of her boyfriend and left her and their loved ones grappling with shock and grief.

As the night unfolded, Joy and her boyfriend ventured to Skymall around 10 p.m., seeking a moment of relaxation at the bar. However, what began as a simple outing took a devastating turn when her boyfriend excused himself, presumably to meet someone at the entrance of the mall.

Minutes later, the tranquility of the evening was shattered by cries for help. Rushing outside, Joy was confronted with a horrifying sight: her boyfriend lying in a pool of blood, surrounded by concerned friends. The presence of an armed policeman, wielding a dagger stained with blood, only added to the chaos and confusion.

In the aftermath of the altercation, instead of offering assistance or providing an explanation for his actions, the policeman’s response was chillingly indifferent. His claim that her boyfriend had slapped him served as a feeble justification for the violence that had ensued.

The subsequent ordeal at multiple hospitals further compounded the tragedy. Despite desperate attempts to seek medical attention for her boyfriend’s critical condition, they encountered rejection and callous indifference at every turn. From Doren Specialist Hospital to Emirates Hospital, the response was the same: refusal to administer treatment and a callous redirection to another facility.

Tragically, as they made their way to the General Hospital Marina, it became apparent that her boyfriend’s condition was rapidly deteriorating. Despite their frantic efforts, he succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital, leaving behind a void that can never be filled.

Joy’s heartbreaking account underscores the urgent need for accountability, justice, and reform within Nigeria’s law enforcement and healthcare systems. No individual should face such brutality and callous disregard for their life and well-being. As she mourns the loss of her beloved boyfriend, Joy’s courage in sharing her story serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle for justice and dignity in the face of adversity.

Continuing, she said, “ Another police that accompanied us to the hospital , said he was not there when the incident happened. He said he was alerted by some private security men. He left us when my boyfriend was confirmed dead.

Nobody knew exactly what happened. the Sky Mall Manager said the officers were not regular security personnel of Sky Mall but that they were  brought in to protect the environment.”

Also speaking with  Saturday Vanguard, the immediate elder brother of the deceased, Augustine, said his family was yet to come to terms with the rude shock.

He said, “My grandmother is going through emotional pain with us. I have seen the Sky Mall Manager, who was detained when the incident happened, at the Ajah Police division. We’ve been hearing about police killing people they’re meant to protect, but my family never knew one day it would get to us. We seek nothing but justice”, he stated. When contacted, the Lagos State Police Command through its spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin assured Lagosians that investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Patrick had commenced.

He disclosed that the policeman had been arrested and that he was under the custody of the command.

16-year-old boy in court accused of murdering a security guard

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy has appeared in the Lusaka High Court charged with murder after the car he was driving allegedly hit a security guard at the mall who later died.

When the juvenile offender, through his lawyer, applied for bail pending trial, the State urged the court to only grant bail to the teenager after it is ascertained that he will be safe if realised.

A prosecutor told Judge Mwamba Chanda that considering the seriousness of the offence, the teenager is in danger of being attacked by the deceased’s relatives.

The juvenile, who will be called CJ, is charged with murder after the Toyota Alphard he was allegedly driving last December hit a security guard at Manda Hill Mall who later died.

The victim is Enoch Chanda, 35, a G4S security guard at Manda Hill mall.

When the case came up yesterday,CJ pleaded not guilty and his lawyer Robert Siulapwa applied for bail pending trial.

The application was pursuant to section 73(2) of the Children’s Code Act.

“The court has jurisdiction to inquire into the case and strike a balance between the community as well as the child with regard to safety before the bail is granted,” Mr Siulapwa said.

But the State contended that the defence had not demonstrated that there is no danger on the child being released.

“We are of the view that the offence the child is charged with is serious, which itself puts the child in danger as he may be attacked by the deceased relatives who may not understand the law. We pray that not until the inquiry is concluded as to the safety of the child, he stays in custody,” a prosecutor submitted.

Judge Chanda ruled that all offences pertaining children are bailable, serve for the fact that the court needs to ascertain the safety or danger of the child or to the community or vice versa, especially if circumstances are aggravating.

She ordered that a juvenile inspector should conduct an assessment in the community by interviewing families of the deceased, the child in conflict with the law and community members.

Bail will only be granted if there are no threats to the community or if the child is not a threat

The Anambra State Police Command has dismissed the claims that 21 soldiers were killed by gunmen in the state.

There have been reports across social media since Tuesday saying that 21 soldiers who were on their way to Enugu State were rounded up and killed in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Monday evening.

But while reacting to the report in a statement on Wednesday, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, dismissed the claims, describing it as “misleading”, “unfounded” and “false”.

The statement read, “The Anambra State Police Command is aware of a misleading, unfounded, and false report titled, ‘Gunmen kill 21 soldiers in Anambra’, recently peddled by some online media and national dailies.

“The Command wishes to state that the report is untrue, a product of fiction, and the handiwork of mischief-makers.

kenga added that the Command should not hesitate to invoke relevant cyber laws on persons found wanting in this regard.

“However, the Command urges the public to disregard the report,” he added.

The full buck moon brings a great shift

Published

on

July’s full buck moon is set to arrive after sunset on Sunday the 21st and it will be the biggest and brightest supermoon of the year. Whether you’re looking for it or not, this moon will bring a significant amount of change into your life, but how you choose to accept it and harness its powerful energy is up to you. The buck moon got its name from the male deers’ antlers which are in full-growth during this time, just like the moon which is at its peak. As for your emotions, it is crucial that you listen to your heart. If your body is calling for you to rest, slow down and spend time at home, if you want to start something new, now is the time to put things in place, or if you want to work on your relationships, be upfront, honest, and work on your connections.

What does full buck moon mean for your zodiac sign?

Aquarius
You may be feeling overwhelmed and need time alone. Now is the best time to focus on yourself and your healing. It may be helpful to tune out any external voices and noises, and concentrate on what is most important to you in order to find ways to help you get there. Harness the moon’s powerful energy to process things with a clear mind and conscience and you may find that it gives you the closure you need.

Pisces

Use this time to evaluate your relationships and consider whether they are serving you in a positive way. If anyone in your life is not bringing you joy or happiness, it might be time to take a step back and channel your energy into healthy relationships instead. Be open and honest with your feelings and ensure that all parties are on the same page and accept that if things aren’t working out, it might be the better option to walk away rather than forcing them.

Aries
The full buck moon in Aries will present an opportunity to enhance your career and life’s purpose. The moon will help you assess whether you are in the right position and if a change in direction should be on the cards. If you’re feeling like your workload is getting out of control, or your responsibilities have been increased, this may be the sign that it’s time for a new career path. While it might be a daunting prospect, it will work out in your favor.

Taurus
For the taurus, the full buck moon is the perfect time to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. There are countless opportunities waiting for you which could alter the direction of your life. Whether it’s traveling, taking up a new hobby, starting a new project, gaining a new skill, or creating new connections, this is the time to try it out.

Gemini
You might feel most comfortable keeping everything as surface level as possible, but July is the ideal time to start delving deeper. It could be a relationship, an emotion, or something else, but if there was ever a time to put your heart into something, the full buck moon will present you with the right opportunity.

Cancer
For cancers, this month’s focus should be on your relationships. Take the time to identify who is most important to you in your life and work on strategies to enhance your bond. Whether it is a romantic partner, a family member, or a friend, the full buck moon will give you the tools to establish trust and build on your existing connection.

Leo
Leos must use the full buck moon’s energy to help others, as well as yourself. Self-care is equally, if not more important, than caring for those around you. Keep an eye on your health, make sure you are practicing a positive way of living to enlighten your spirit and be a bright light for those around you as well.

Virgo
The full buck moon can heighten your emotions and feelings in a number of ways and for the Virgo, it may bring us past hurt. Although things may feel overwhelming and consuming, you can work with this energy to come out stronger than ever. Make sure to do something that brings you a great amount of joy and allows you to forget about the pain.

Libra
You may feel yourself wanting to break away from everyone and everything and spend some time alone. Don’t worry about feeling like this, it’s your body telling you it needs to reset and hide away for a little bit. It’s ok to be introverted during July, it may be the ideal time for you to replenish your energy and recharge your spirit before emerging as a stronger person.

Scorpio
In a direct contrast from the Libra, Scorpios may feel more extraverted this month as the buck moon transitions into full illumination. There will be a strong desire to be surrounded by people, be more involved in social situations, and develop new relationships. If a new connection is made, you may be more likely to thrive in it regardless if it’s romantic or platonic.

Sagittarius
Slowing down and embracing the moment is ideal for the Sagittarius during July. Allow the full buck moon’s powerful energy to permeate into all aspects into your life and feel more connected to the universe. You may feel the need to practice introspection and take the right actions to enhance your life in the future.

Capricorn
Capricorn’s should expect to feel heightened emotions all month long. You may start to consider your identity and purpose and try to understand how everything will fit into your life. Don’t try to rush this process, everything will start to fall into place. This moment could be incredibly poignant and allow you to become your authentic self.
