EFCC arrests Bobrisky for abusing naira notes

Idris Olanrewaju Okunleye, commonly known as Bobrisky, a well-known Nigerian transwoman and socialite, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday.

The EFCC confirmed the arrest via a statement on their Instagram page, revealing that the 31-year-old was apprehended following a report of the socialite allegedly spraying and displaying bundles of newly minted naira notes at the premiere of the film “Beasts of Two Worlds” on March 24, 2024.

“Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have commenced investigation of Idris Okuneye, a.k.a Bobrisky, for allegedly spraying naira notes,” the EFCC statement said.

“Investigation also revealed that he had also committed the alleged offence at some other event centres and parties at different times. Following the invitation by the Commission, he arrived at the Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC on the morning of Wednesday, April 4, 2024, for interrogation and volunteered his statements,” it added.

The agency has since received backlash for arresting the socialite for spraying money, as many Nigerians spray money at event. One user said, “My question here is, is HE the only person who has sprayed naira in events, Let get a clearer version of his arrest instead of this spraying naira version of it.”
